Description | A deeper insight into the ways in which theory and research methods in personality, intelligence, and individual differences have developed, sometimes in competition and sometimes in cooperation. Major perspectives of personality and how these may be applied to a range of experimental, physiological, clinical, educational, criminological and industrial psychological issues. Psychological measurement/strengths and limitations of psychometric measures. Lectures/tutorials/ independent study/use of Moodle for directed self–study tasks | |

– Intelligence: – Psychometric model of individual differences; how to evaluate and measure the difference in human behaviour, personality and intelligence (intelligence and personality tests); projective tests vs objective tests; – General intelligence; intelligence tests, uses and limitations; – Group differences; sex, age, race, social class, and culture – Developmental Change and Stability of Personality: – Application of the different theoretical and methodological perspectives of personality to address everyday problems/issues involving intelligence and individual differences: – The dispositional perspective; the biological perspective – The psychoanalytic perspective: Classical Psychoanalysis of Freud, Ego Psychology, Psychosocial Psychology of Erikson, Object–Relations Psychology, Social Psychoanalysis of Horney, Interpersonal Theory of Sullivan – The analytical perspective: Jung – The learning perspective: Conditioning Theories (Classical and Operant) and Socio– Cognitive Theories (i.e., Bandura´s views of the person) -The phenomenological and existential perspective: e.g. humanistic psychology of Rogers and Maslow; Daseinsanalysis The cognitive perspective and self-regulation/ feedback control theory The Positive psychology perspective Combining perspectives (differences and similarities) |
