SNMCI has partnerships with approximately 15 institutions throughout the globe, providing opportunities for staff mobility and cooperative education collaborations.
The Erasmus programme provides opportunities for academic and administrative staff members to travel to partnering institutions and to experience e.g. a brief secondment, job shadowing, staff training, seminar and programme participation.
Participating personnel are supported financially for a portion of their travel and living expenses. Opportunities may be restricted depending on the availability of funds.
Why should employee mobility be considered?
Staff mobility encourages professional growth, networking and cooperation. It has the potential to expand knowledge bases and skills related to best practice, on an international level.
Teaching Mobility
Teaching mobility must be undertaken at one of SNMCI’s current exchange partners with whom we have a valid Inter-institutional Agreement for teaching mobility and the mobility must relate to your subject/discipline area.
The main purpose of the visit must be teaching (hours discussed at the host institution with an average of 6-8 per week) although any additional time can be spent on research collaboration, meeting with colleagues and students. Teaching should be part of the local syllabus (i.e. not guest lectures).
The minimum mobility is 2 working days and the maximum is 1 month (time of year dependent), excluding travel time. Currently the average duration is 1 week, which must be discussed with line managers to ensure that arrangements can be made in consideration of your academic responsibilities at SNMCI.
How to Apply:
If you are considering a ‘teaching mobility’ please contact the Erasmus Office erasmus@smsi.ie . When the Erasmus Office has confirmed that a partner institution is willing to act as host you will be contacted with further details of the following documentation.
- Mobility Agreement for Teaching
- Grant Agreement for Staff Mobility
- Confirmation of Attendance
- Grant Acknowledgement form (after mobility)
Training Mobility
Training mobility must be activities which can be undertaken at one of SNMCI’s current exchange partners with whom we have a valid Inter-institutional Agreement.
A good place to start would be opportunities at our European partner institutions. Depending on your area of work, many universities offer International Weeks which provide an opportunity to follow a fixed training programme and to benefit from opportunities to meet with colleagues from many other institutions in related fields, at the same time.
