Outgoing Erasmus+
Frequently Asked Questions
Who can go on Erasmus+ at SNMCI?
Second year students enrolled in the full time course of Bachelor of Education in Montessori Education and the mobility takes place in the Spring semester.
There are some conditions for students going away:
- Your college fees must be paid up to date.
- You must pass all assessments in the first semester.
- You must register online in the college you are going to.
- You must fill in a learning agreement, get it signed here, sign it and send it off.
- You must sign a grant agreement with SNMCI.
- You must ensure you have adequate health insurance in case of illness or accident.
What is the Process of selection?
Students at SNMCI are encouraged at several points in the year to look into Erasmus+ opportunities with the International Officer. In September we will have an Erasmus + information session. Last year’s students may tell us about their experiences and application forms will be available with the International Officer. If you are interested, please request one from the International Officer, fill in and return. Interviews will be in October. Prior to the interview, we will look at your attendance, your academic record, your punctuality, both in attending college and in submitting assignments. You will know before the end of October if you have been chosen.
What are my opportunities with Erasmus+?
Students
SNMCI has been operating Erasmus+ and international mobilities for several years and as a result, has built strong partnerships with many institutions across the world. We are part of the international teacher-training institution organisation of Kastalia.
SNMCI students have the option of the following mobility:
- study
- study + traineeship (placement)
- placement only
Staff
Staff are encouraged to go on mobility for the development of their own knowledge and skills. Staff have the opportunity of going on mobility for:
- Training
- Teaching
Where can I go?
SNMCI students can study in the following countries:
- Germany
- Denmark
- Belgium
- Israel
SNMCI can complete a Montessori placement in our partner school at Scuola Montessori in Lake Como, Italy.
SNMCI staff can go to each location listed above for either teaching or training mobility.
What if I have the SUSI Grant, will this affect my Grant whilst away?
If you are in receipt of a student grant, that grant will still be paid, in addition to your Erasmus grant. Also, if you are in receipt of a student grant, you may be entitled to a supplementary grant from Erasmus. Please notify the International Officer if this is the case.
What if I have special considerations or learning disabilities, will I be excluded?
Not at all. SNMCI’s Erasmus policy outlines the necessity of inclusivity and diversity. If you have special needs that require extra expense, these expenses can also be covered by your Erasmus grant. Please notify the International Officer of the special considerations.
Will I be able to progress to third year if I take time out to do Erasmus?
Yes. The credits you gain from your studies overseas will be applied to your SNMCI course so, providing you have passed everything, you should still have 60 credits at the end of the academic year. BUT you will have to complete the required number of hours in placement and submit a teaching portfolio after placement.
How can I apply?
If you are interested on going on an Erasmus+ mobility, please email the international officer, Mackenzie Young at mackenzie.young@smsi.ie.
