At St Nicholas we follow the child led approach to teaching based on the philosophy of Maria Montessori. We believe that the children are at their happiest when they are engaged in the learning process. Children are natural learners who, when left to follow their instincts, want to constantly explore the world around them. We believe that each child is an individual and should be encouraged to work at a pace that is right for him or her in a non-competitive environment.
The 6 – 12 Curriculum
Your child’s future begins here
The 6-12 curriculum presents children with a full range of subject areas, including mathematics, language, the arts, sciences, and social sciences. The curriculum is much broader than many national curricula.
The materials and exercises for each subject area help children construct a mental order. Rather than discrete subject areas, the educational disciplines are presented to children in the form of an interconnected, interrelated, and open-ended curriculum. The children are shown how each topic is related to other topics in the same subject area and to other subjects.
