Programme Information
This micro-credential programme offers learners an opportunity to look at special education provision in an Irish context, to further their understanding of the inclusion process and to identify both supports and barriers to learning. The programme investigates assessed syndromes and specific learning difficulties and shows learners how to plan, through use of the Individual Education Plan (IEP) process, and then how to put plans into practice. In this way it focuses on differentiation and responses to diversity in the classroom. An added dimension to this programme is that it is underpinned by Montessori principles e.g. partnership with parents, concrete experiences, active learning and the importance of communication. The programme supplements learners existing knowledge, as members of multidisciplinary teams, supporting children with additional needs and their families. The theoretical aspects of the programme, including Montessori concepts related to sensory development and concrete materials and experiences, can be integrated into planning and practice, to support children’s learning in a range of environments.
